Why it's worth going
It is an easy evening with children, an hour on foot ten minutes from the centre, and a good change from the markets once you have had enough mulled wine.
What to expect
It opens when it gets dark, from about 17:30, and closes at 21:00, or 22:00 on the busiest days, with last entry an hour before closing. It is closed on Mondays. Book a timed ticket online. Bus 26 runs onto the island from Nyugati station and stops by the Palatinus.
Lumina Park is a seasonal light trail at the Palatinus site on Margaret Island, and this season's theme is Alice in Wonderland: more than 200 installations along a route of about 1.5 kilometres. It opened on 20 October 2026 and stays open until 7 March 2027, so it covers the whole Christmas season and most of the winter. Tickets on the official site cost 4,400–5,300 HUF depending on the day and on whether you qualify for a reduction; family tickets are 16,900–17,900 HUF, and children under two go free. Weekend prices also apply over the holidays, from 25 December into January.
