Why it's worth going
You get a Christmas market and the most famous view in Budapest on the same evening: from the Bastion you look straight across the Danube at the lit Parliament.
What to expect
A compact square of stalls rather than a long run of them, so it takes half an hour, not an evening. Bus 16 runs up the hill from Deák Ferenc tér, or take the funicular from Clark Ádám tér; walking up from the Chain Bridge takes about fifteen minutes. Pair it with a walk along the castle walls.
Budavári Advent is organised by the Castle District itself, on Szentháromság tér between Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion. It is a district fair rather than a destination market: artisan stalls, food and mulled wine, and in past years weekend Christmas concerts, children's programmes and the lighting of an Advent candle each Sunday. The 2026 edition runs from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, so it is one of the few markets still open in the days after Christmas. Opening hours for 2026 had not been published when this page was checked. Last year it was open daily from 9:00 to 20:00, with shorter hours over Christmas and New Year.
