Why it's worth going
It is a real neighbourhood Advent, put on for the people who live in Óbuda, much less crowded than the markets downtown, and the skating is free.
What to expect
Most of the programme happens at weekends. Take the HÉV suburban train from Batthyány tér to Szentlélek tér, two minutes from the square. Óbuda's Roman remains are a short walk away.
Advent Óbudán fills the baroque Fő tér and the neighbouring Szentlélek tér for four weekends before Christmas. It opens on Friday 27 November 2026 at 16:30 with a figure-skating show on the free ice rink in the square, and runs until 23 December with an artisan market, winter street food, concerts and choirs, the lighting of an Advent candle each Sunday and workshops for children. Santa and his elves receive children in a gingerbread house from 27 November to 6 December. The organisers say admission is free.
