About this tour
What this is
The Christmas market walk, shortened for a couple: two hours instead of three, and €160 for the two of you instead of a group price. It is still private. Péter meets you at your hotel or a landmark you pick, and nobody else joins.
Where you go
Vörösmarty tér is the big market, and the oldest. Craft stalls with a jury that vets what can be sold, which keeps the quality up and the mass-produced tat out. St Stephen’s Basilica is the prettier one, with a light projection on the church facade that runs through the evening. Péter takes the photos of you both there, and sends them the same evening.
The mulled wine
Forralt bor, one each, is included. Note the deposit system: you pay extra for the mug and get it back when you return it, or keep the mug. Nobody explains this and everyone is confused by it once. Péter will also point you to the chimney cake made properly over coals, and how to order the roast meats sold by weight.
Practical notes
- Dress properly. Budapest in December runs around 0–5°C and the squares are exposed. Hat, gloves, warm boots.
- Start time is 17:00 or 18:00, when the lights are on and before the worst of the evening crush.
- Exact 2026 market dates are set by the city and confirmed closer to the season. We’ll have them before your date.
